Beginner Sewing Workshop: Learn to Sew
New to sewing? This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for youth and adults who are ready to learn the basics in a relaxed, supportive classroom setting.
Students will learn how to safely use a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, thread the machine, practice basic stitches, understand seam allowance, and become familiar with common sewing terms and tools. This class is perfect for true beginners, returning sewists who need a refresher, or younger makers ready to build confidence at the machine.
During class, each student will complete a simple beginner project using provided materials.
Who This Class Is For:
Youth ages 9+ and adults
No previous sewing experience required
Skills Covered:
Threading a sewing machine
Winding a bobbin
Basic machine safety
Straight stitch, utility stitch, and zigzag stitch practice
Seam allowance
Basic sewing terminology
Beginner project construction

Students are welcome to bring their own working sewing machine, or use a classroom machine if available. Students who bring their own machine must complete a liability waiver before class begins.
Youth students should be comfortable following instructions and working safely around sewing equipment. For youth students bringing their own machine, a parent or guardian must complete the waiver.
